²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ ACTivate's H Courses

Cyber Security

This course introduces students to the foundational principles of cyber security. The program explores key topics such as digital threats, data protection, ethical hacking, cryptography and network security. Students will develop practical skills in identifying vulnerabilities, managing risk and understanding how cybersecurity applies across government, defence and industry contexts. The course prepares students for future studies and careers in one of the world’s fastest growing and most critical technology fields.

Systems Architecture

In this course, students gain a deep understanding of how complex computer systems are designed, structured and operated. With a focus on core computing concepts, including hardware-software interaction, data representation, instruction sets and performance optimisation, this program equips learners with the knowledge to understand how modern computing devices function from the ground up. The course offers valuable insight into engineering thinking, systems design and digital innovation, providing a head start for further study in computer science, engineering or information systems.

Who can apply?

To be eligible, students must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Be in year 11 undertaking an appropriate co-requisite course in an ACT college*
  • Receive an endorsement from their school
  • Commit to attending weekly face-to-face classes at ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ Canberra City

*Both Cyber Security and Systems Architecture require students to be undertaking studies in an Information Technology course to be eligible to be enrolled.

How to apply

  1. Explore courses: Review ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ ACTivate's H Course offerings and select the one aligning with your interests and academic goals. 
  2. Nominate a respresentative: Have a discussion with your parents and school careers adviser about your application. You will need to nominate a representative from your school to support your suitability for the program.  
  3. Submit application: Complete the online application form by the specified deadline.
  4. Selection process: Applications are reviewed based on your response to the learner’s statement and application. 
  5. Sit tight: Successful applicants will be notified via email and provided with enrolment details.

Frequently asked questions  

  • A H Course is a classification given to a year 11 and 12 course which is designed and accredited by an Australian higher education provider and the ACT BSSS. Successful completion of the course can be recognised towards an undergraduate degree.

  • ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ ACTivate's H Courses are open to Australian domestic students or permanent residents. Students need a confirmed Year 11 enrolment at an ACT college (government or non-government) to apply.

  • Students will be selected by a panel made up of ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ, ACT Education Directorate and school sector representatives. Applications are reviewed based on your response to the learner’s statement and application.

  • ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ ACTivate's H Courses are accredited by the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies (BSSS). Successful completion of a H Course can be used to meet the requirements for an ACT Senior Secondary Certificate and Tertiary Entrance Statement. The course scores you achieve in the program may contribute towards your ATAR calculation.

  • Classes are held on weekday afternoons from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ Canberra City, 37 Constitution Ave, Reid, ACT 2612. The day of the week and term schedule will be published in due course. Courses will not commence before ACT public school Term 2, 2026. 

  • Participation in a ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ ACTivate H Course is free to students. 

  • Interested students are encouraged to apply for the course/s that interest them. All courses are scheduled to be delivered at the same time and day, meaning you can only enrol in one course. Students will be able to list their preferred course during the application process.

  • ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ Canberra currently offers two H Courses, Cyber Security and Systems Architecture. Additional H Courses and Bachelor programs are expected to be added to the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ Canberra portfolio of education offerings in due course. 

  • Each of the current ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ ACTivate H Courses on offer, Cyber Security and Systems Architecture, will grant students 6 units of credit (6 UOC) into the Bachelor of Cyber Security at ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ Canberra. Additional H Courses and Bachelor programs are expected to be added to the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ Canberra portfolio of education offerings in due course. 

  • H Courses are only relevant to students undertaking the Senior Secondary Certificate in the ACT. Units of credit associated with undertaking the H Courses Cyber Security and Systems Architecture are aligned directly to the corresponding units in ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ Canberra’s Bachelor of Cyber Security. Additional H Courses and Bachelor programs are expected to be added to the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ Canberra portfolio of education offerings in due course.
