Professor kylie valentine
BA (Hons), PhD Syd
kylie valentine is Director of the Social Policy Research Centre and the Centre for Social Research in Health.
She conducts research on what policy is, how human services are delivered, and how social worlds are made up in policy and practice. That research generates new knowledge on the social problems caused by poverty and disadvantage: who they affect, how they are understood, and what happens when policy intervenes to address them.
kylie also conducts evaluation and other types of research on integrated service delivery in family and community support services, gendered violence, housing and homelessness, and alcohol and other drug services. This research is about the impact of human services and drugs policies on the people these policies are delivered to, and on the service systems delivering them. She has expertise in qualitative methodologies and evaluation design, and is very interested in the sociology of knowledge and the history of ideas, and how they can be used to understand social inequalities.
